O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus!!
written by S. Trevor Francis
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore!
How He watches o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
How for them He intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best!
’Tis an ocean full of blessing, ’tis a haven giving rest!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, ’tis a heaven of heavens to me;
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!
We sing the this song is church the words are awesome and I love the tune. The second part of the song is my favorite, I am thankful that my Lord Jesus died to call me His own! I am also thankful that He intercedeth for me! Listen here.

TOS Crew: Soli Deo Gloria Map Skills
We received a copy of the Map Skills from Soli Deo Gloria to review for the TOS Crew. After reading over the book and printing out all of the pages necessary for use I was not really impressed. BUT after working thru some of the lessons with the kids I changed my mind.
The map skills book suggests that you purchase a separate workbook to complement the map lessons, we did not do this. The girls and I simply worked thru the lessons.
Here are some things we enjoyed:
The map skills book suggests that you purchase a separate workbook to complement the map lessons, we did not do this. The girls and I simply worked thru the lessons.
Here are some things we enjoyed:
- I really liked how they Incorporated scripture into some of the lessons.
- My girls really enjoyed using sticky notes to label north, east, south and west on the walls in our home. The second time around I had them do it blindfolded, just for fun.
- The girls LOVED playing Directional Simon Says. They had to do things like, jump 5 times towards the north, walk backwards going south and crawl to the west wall of the room.
- They also liked making a "map" of their room. I made them sit at opposite sides of the room so that there would be no copying. It was so funny how the girls made their maps so differently.
- I liked all the hands on activities that were suggested, like designing a playground, making an edible map and a treasure hunt. I think these activities will really help them to retain what they have learned.
- I was glad the kids liked it. Even when we were finished the map skills book the Lil Chef said to me, I hope that we are doing that map skills book again!
- I didn't like that it is only a 3 week study. For the price, $14.00, I wished it was a bit longer.
- I would rather that the map skills book suggest some living books that I could get at the library to accompany the study instead of a workbook I would have to purchase.

Homestead Blessings: The Art of Bread Making Reveiw and Giveaway!
I've been hanging out with the West Ladies again this evening as I watched The Art of Bread Making (for the third time). They are so talented when it comes to kitchen wisdom!
I decided to make their recipe for homemade bread. I have made my own bread before but only in my bread machine. I have heard that there is an art to making bread and have never felt confident enough to try it on my own in the oven, until now.
Here is what I did...

They showed me how to make homemade bread from scratch, a sour dough starter, cornbread, CINNAMON ROLLS and a meal in a loaf! I know, I know, I am getting hungry just typing!
I decided to make their recipe for homemade bread. I have made my own bread before but only in my bread machine. I have heard that there is an art to making bread and have never felt confident enough to try it on my own in the oven, until now.
Here is what I did...
In a large bowl I mixed 2 1/2 cups of Warm Water (not hot) and 2 cups of Wheat Flour. After mixing the four and water together I added 1 tsp of Salt, 1/2 cup of Honey, 1/2 cup of Oil and 1 Tbsp of Yeast. I made sure that I mixed everything together really well.
Then I added 3 more Cups of Flour. I mixed and kneaded the dough with my hands, for about 5 minutes (or until the dough is formed and nice and soft).
I put a little bit of oil in the bottom of my bowl, sat the dough back inside and covered with a towel. I left it to rise at room temperature for an hour and a half.
We separated the dough into two parts and then placed them in our oiled loaf pans. Once we formed them nice, and poked a few holes in them with a fork they sat in the oven to rise foer another hour.
As you can see, after rising for a second time the dough is really starting to look like bread.
After baking the bread at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes, this is what we ended up with. The bread smelled so good!!
This bread tastes great! It is a bit more hearty and filling then store bought bread, in my opinion. It made a great tomato and humus sandwich. The hardest thing about this recipe was waiting for the bread come out of the oven to taste it!
